As part of my role overseeing the Eco-Design Studio, I had the opportunity to supervise a project in collaboration with the Institute of Natural Fibers and Medicinal Plants – State Research Institute. This project focused on innovative packaging design within the circular economy framework, utilizing biocomposites as an alternative to traditional materials.

Collaboration with a Scientific Institute

The project was conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Natural Fibers and Medicinal Plants – State Research Institute, allowing access to advanced research and technology. With the expertise of the Institute, we utilized biocomposites based on polylactic acid (PLA) reinforced with hemp fibers. These biocomposites combine biodegradability with excellent mechanical properties, making them ideal for sustainable packaging design.

Biocomposites – The Future of Packaging Design

Biocomposites provide an eco-friendly alternative to traditional materials, combining biodegradable polymers with natural fibers such as hemp. Designing with biocomposites enables the creation of packaging that is not only functional but also environmentally friendly, aligning with the principles of the circular economy.

Innovative Design Concepts

The project developed various concepts targeting different industries, from gastronomy to electronics. Examples include gastronomic trays, transport packaging, protective phone cases, and modular containers for bulk products. Each solution was designed with a focus on minimizing carbon footprint and optimizing resource use.

Collaborative Projects with Students

During the project, I also worked closely with my students from the Eco-Design Studio, providing them with hands-on experience with advanced materials and technologies. This valuable experience enriched our knowledge and opened new opportunities in the field of sustainable design.
