Participating in INDEX Saudi Arabia 2024 as part of the official delegation from the Wielkopolska region was a remarkable opportunity to engage with key industry professionals from the design and architecture sectors. Saudi Arabia, with its rapidly developing economy under the Vision 2030 program, is an emerging hub of global innovation and collaboration. INDEX Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom’s premier event for interior design, has evolved into a platform showcasing the future of design and construction in the region. As Firas Alsahin, Co-founder & Design Director of 4SPACE Design, remarked:

INDEX Saudi Arabia was not just great; it was incredibly useful for upcoming Saudi projects! The event has grown to a size that we have never seen before, showcasing the immense potential and enthusiasm within the design and construction industry in the Kingdom.

The exhibition itself featured an impressive array of innovative projects, products, and technologies. As a representative of Brandkreator, my focus was on promoting sustainable design principles, virtual reality (VR) technologies for prototyping, and testing, as well as unique, luxury designs. I also aimed to strengthen international collaborations. My VR design demonstrations, which allowed visitors to experience product and architectural prototyping in real-time, were particularly well-received. One day we focused on designing furniture, and the next, elements of architecture – each demonstration showcasing how VR could transform the design process.

The most interesting panel discussions in my opinion:

Design in the Real World: Confronting and Conquering Industry Challenges

This panel delved into the real-world challenges that designers face in their professional journeys. A standout takeaway for me was the focus on staying innovative while meeting client expectations, managing tight deadlines, and keeping up with the rapid pace of technological advancements. The insights provided by industry leaders offered practical approaches to maintaining resilience and adaptability in this ever-evolving landscape. I gained valuable knowledge on how to stay ahead of the curve in a competitive market.

Design with Impact: Creating Sustainable Workplaces that Promote Wellbeing

The focus here was on the role of workplace design in enhancing employee wellbeing and how it directly impacts business outcomes. The discussion emphasized that creating spaces tailored to employees’ physical, psychological, and social needs can foster connection, reduce burnout, and ultimately lead to a competitive advantage for companies. This topic resonated with me, as sustainability in design, paired with wellbeing, has always been central to Brandkreator’s approach. Furthermore, the conversation explored how companies can contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and utilizing smart materials.

Authenticity in Culture: Preserving Heritage and Inspiring New Age Design

This panel highlighted the balance between preserving cultural heritage and fostering modern innovation. It was fascinating to hear how traditional elements can be seamlessly incorporated into contemporary design projects. The discussion also raised ethical considerations, particularly around the importance of avoiding cultural appropriation and ensuring respectful representation. The insights into how designers can create culturally respectful and innovative designs were particularly valuable for my work with Brandkreator, where we often strive to merge cultural influences in design.

Conclusion:

INDEX Saudi Arabia 2024 was not just a platform to showcase my work but also a chance to gain new perspectives and ideas from global industry leaders. Engaging in meaningful conversations with manufacturers and designers helped expand my vision for future projects and collaborations. The two-week stay in Riyadh, filled with meetings and networking, left a lasting impression on me. I was deeply touched by the hospitality and generosity of the Saudi people, who were incredibly welcoming to foreign visitors.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the Wielkopolska region’s representatives, who ensured seamless organization and provided invaluable support to all participating businesses, enabling us to make the most of the exhibition. This trip marked a successful step towards strengthening international connections and building long-term collaborations.
